SM County CC Teams Pace Pack Entering Conf. Play:
Cañada & CSM end Ohlone’s unbeaten (17-0) baseball start

Ohlone College, which had blown away its first 17 opponents from all corners of the state, couldn’t handle either Cañada or College of San Mateo the past weekend, suffering its first setbacks of the season.

The Renegades, the first team to win 17 games, were the last unbeaten team among the state’s 88 teams.

— Cañada extended its win streak to eight games, ending Ohlone’s 17-game skein with an 8-7 win.

— CSM was down, 9-0, Saturday after three innings but then outscored Ohlone 14-0 over the next four frames.

Andrew Crane started the Bulldogs rally in the fourth, unloading the bases with a 3-RBI double, He later singled home Kodai Yaoita for the Bulldogs last run. Yaoita had four hits on the day and scored three times. John Kane also had three of San Mateo’s 19 hits. Danny Carnazzo homered with Yaoita on based in the sixth inning to put CSM ahead, 11-9.

San Mateo takes an 11-5 record into Coast North Conference play this week. San Mateo County’s three community college teams posted the conference’s best overall record in non-league, including Skyline at 12-3 and Cañada at 11-5, all well ahead of West Valley (9-8), the only other league team with a winning record.
